Elephants for Entertainment, Profits and Captivity ? [VIDEO]

I am not a fan of animals in captivity used for human entertainment and financial gain. In Thailand, I saw several Elephant Ride businesses for tourists where they are using old and tired Elephants who are way past their prime. Some researchers suggest that Elephants in the Wild live longer and have a better quality of life. What do you think of us humans controlling and owning Elephants or other animals in this way ? Are we really OK with this ?

Any living being kept for human profit is a slave/prisoner situation. That said, I know that we have domesticated these animals and are now responsible for them once we have done that. Most people/places will not spend the money to care for any beings who are not bringing in an income. If these or any beings could be released successfully into the wild, they definitely should be released so they can have a peaceful life with normal elephant relationships to other elephants and their environment. This is not a quality of life for these elephants.
Organizations exist who provide rehab and shelter to animals like these and bears who were once used as dancing bears and their goal is to release the animals back into the wild.

We can barely take care of our own species, we really never had any business domesticating other species and claiming we could care for them. It is greed that drives most of these businesses. People pay large sums for the experience of riding elephants or petting wild animals and the bottom line is profit, not the animals wellbeing.

I have always thought that I would be interesting to see how “people” would react if the tables were turned? Now if you saw a human with a cage strapped onto its back, chained up to a fence and pacing back and forth(to the limits of the chain) how would any of us feel?
