Hi Jeff. Yes it is so much cheaper than meat and cheese etc. I don't know where all that is coming from either except that MickyDs etc has $1.00 hbugers now. It only looks cheap on the surface. I do so appreciate that the main stream tv cooking shows are showing a lot of vegan and vegetarian food nowadays. Check out ABCs "The Chew" today for a great kale salad with a great discussion about the value of it and how to make it palatable to people who aren't accustomed to it. We get all kinds of interesting shows, but the mainstream just aren't there yet.

You listed some veg fare. You started with fruit, nuts, etc. I am looking for a quick reference to understand food combining. Would you eat fruit and nuts together? Is that poor combining, ie sugars and fats? I am slow to understand it all, except, I do understand that when it comes to insulin resistance, fat is the culprit to stopping the insulin from getting the sugars to where they need to go. Any ideas?

I followed a lot of Dan's words of wisdom. I did a lot of fasting, high raw, low fat, no junk veganism. I got very sick with mercury poisoning from a small dental amalgam placement (had no clue about that issue because I had never had any cavities until I started this diet). My doctor believes that the diet left me unable to process metals because my thyroid was severely damaged from eating raw cruciferous vegetables day in and day out. I was ill for about 2 months from going to the dentist, and my teeth are messed up. Really not worth it to me. I have had to go back to eating animal products because of the mercury poisoning, because vegans will never get well from mercury poisoning, or at least there is no documented evidence of this.

Thanks, Jeff. Good reminder. Hard for me to find locally grown here, but the encouragement helps. I am still uneducated on the different types of sugar and how they affect the body. I know all cells require 'sugar' to function. There is a lot of talk that fruit sugar causes triglycerides. Some say all sugar is alike ultimately. Many are absolutely sure that complex carbs are the best. Those foods require cooking mostly so the raw folks have a problem with that. I have done a lot of reading and my diet has gone back and forth with the various ideas. They all make sense. I want to avoid blood vessel/heart problems. Although I was raw for a couple years and lost a lot of weight, I put on a lot of belly fat. Now I struggle with what to do for the ultimate health. I am a little older, so can't play around with it.

I have read everything I can find on the subject on the net, but still don't have a clear understanding of the health implications of how it all works. I don't eat any oil. Some avocado, and a little chia seeds and occasionally some nuts, but not much. Hope you can help. I'd love to see some interviews and hear you do a comprehensive talk on it. Thanks, Lynn
